Like many technologies, the internet is a growing, changing entity. While it started in Web1 (otherwise known as Web 1.0) and is currently in Web2 (Web 2.0), Web3 (Web 3.0) is on the rise. As such, businesses, like the rest of those that use the internet, need to start thinking about how to seamlessly integrate both Web2 and Web3 into their business models. Luckily, it is much easier than it sounds — and if you read on, we shall explain how to do such simply and concisely for you once we look a little deeper into the difference between Web2 and Web3.

What Is the Difference Between Web2 and Web3?

As is the case with upgrades, Web3 is the internet’s way of trying to better improve what Web2 currently offers its users. So to define what is different between the two, we need to look at what makes up their separate definitions. Web2 is the participative social web; called such for a reason, Web2 seeks to make it easier for the global community to connect through the written word. Web3, however, focuses on the semantic web — that is, a way to enable better communication and understanding between users and machines.

One of the largest additions that Web3 brings in is decentralization, which refers to universality in the way data is collected. Instead of having to input your data in different ways, Web3 seeks to make information easier for both computers and people to read in that information is all the same, and kept with the user (as opposed to businesses keeping data, which also makes it safer from hacking/data thieves).

So How Do I Integrate Web2 and Web3 Into My Business?

Considering Web2 is already integrated into many businesses, the first half of integration is already complete. Preparing for Web3, however, can be done easily by integrating the other large portion of what Web3 offers: artificial intelligence, or AI. Using AI in a business can be done through such things as services that provide feedback on your business’ website, or even simple feedback emails created from having customers provide their email addresses when in first contact with your business. AI is intended to give business owners more freedom to focus on other aspects of their business that needs their attention; running AI in the background can be a simple way to prepare for how Web3 will improve the internet as a whole.

Another tool that businesses can use to help with Web3 is blockchain technology. This technology is a great tool that can help businesses prepare for the decentralization that Web3 will implement upon the internet and the data we use upon it. There are private blockchain technologies as well for those that prefer to bridge the gap at a more relaxed pace.
